We don’t wake up every day and decide to purchase diamonds. Buying a diamond is a new and unique experience, and because of this it shouldn’t be done in any old way. Understanding what you are purchasing is of the utmost importance. At the time you are about to make your purchase it is vitally important for you to know the characteristics of each diamond, and which of them influence the stone’s quality. Therefore, these are that things you must take into consideration when deciding to purchase a diamond:
One of the characteristics that you are sure to know about diamonds is the 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat weight: These are the most crucial determinants we need to consider when deciding which diamonds to purchase. This is why:
- This may be one of the things you notice most at the time of purchasing your diamond. Cut means brilliance in a diamond, and so if the stone is well cut it will have more light and sparkle. Ensure that your diamond has this characteristic.
- The grade of a diamond’s colour in fact refers to the absence of colour. Also, when you go to purchase diamonds, look out for the whitest diamonds, those with less colour or those without any colour, since these are the stones with the highest quality ratings.
- When we speak about clarity, we are referring to natural imperfections which diamonds can have. Although at the time of purchasing diamonds, you should be guided by those which have the fewest imperfections, almost all diamonds have one imperfection or another. In this way, the higher a diamonds’ clarity rating, the fewer imperfections it will have.
- Carat weight. This is perhaps the term people are most familiar with when it comes to purchasing diamonds. The carat is unit used to measure a diamond’s weight, and it is possible that sometimes, it doesn’t correspond to the size of the stone. Additionally, when you come to purchase diamonds, you should know how to understand its size, and you should also take two other variables into account: the degree of the diamond’s cut and the distance in millimetres from side to side, across the top of the diamond.
But that isn’t everything. Apart from the 4Cs, another key factor in purchasing diamonds is the stone’s shape. A diamond’s shape is one of the things that gives it its personality; it can be round, princess, or radiant among others, and it is ultimately what we see from above when it is set into a ring. Each diamond shape is different and beauty is very relative, so all we’re saying to you is that when you come to purchase diamonds, the piece must be to your taste, and the reason you choose one or another is an entirely personal decision.
