The 4 C\u2019s are used to ascertain the properties of each diamond. They serve to tell us each diamond\u2019s qualities and enable us to identify each one individually. Therefore the quality of a diamond can be explained in terms of:<\/p>\n

  1. Carat<\/strong>: This is how each stone\u2019s weight is quantified. One carat equals 0.20g and the name derives from a carob seed which was used in the past to measure the weight of jewels and precious metals. The carat value is one of the determining criteria when setting a diamond\u2019s price.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Colour<\/strong>: The whiter a diamond\u2019s colour, the more exceptional it is. The colour can be classified using an alphabetic scale from D to U, where D indicates exceptionally white through to U which indicates a yellow colour.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. Clarity<\/strong>: There are natural imperfections which can exist in a diamond and which affect its quality and a diamond\u2019s purity depends on the number, size and position of any impurities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        1. Cut<\/strong>: Without doubt the most important parameter is the diamond\u2019s size, symmetry and balance, which should be neither too high, nor too flat. There are various types of diamond size: brilliant, princess, oval, pear, radiant, marquise, heart, emerald, cushion and triangular.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
